\jhoo-mer\, [Hindi, jhumar] 1. noun, an ornament worn on the upper forehead, also known as a jhupta; 2. verb, to dance in an ecstatic state; 3. noun, a jewelry design and production company based in Brooklyn, New York.
Jhoomer was founded in 2001, by designer, Nandini Sinha (nun-dun-e), introducing one of a kind pieces, in 18kt gold. Since its conception, Jhoomer has come to offer clients a wider selection of jewelry, with predominantly silver bridge lines (Sphere, Glitter), and the array of Bougainvillea collections (semi-precious gems and sterling silver). Several different fabrication techniques are used to produce Jhoomer jewelry, resulting in a variety of styles to choose from.
Jhoomer is an extension of Nandini, a combination of her intellectual and social interests: nature, jewelry, dance, sculpture, Ancient Indian History, philosophy, and her hometown, New York City. Weary of falling into a category like "exotic" or "ethnic", Nandini maintains her design sensibility to be universal and modern. "I believe in making work that is original, in our culture it is nearly impossible to do so, but I have faith in the creative process." The end result is jewelry that is sophisticated, elegant, sculptural, which expresses in a most subtle manner that "adornment is a form of communication". Please enjoy the offerings of Jhoomer. |
